Voluntaryactivities are activities that are directed towards helping thecommunity and the society at large. Since the issues address thecommunity, they are offered by volunteers within the same community.I once participated in a national park service in my neighborhood. The activities involved sensitizing the community on the importanceof preserving the environment through going green. This was inresponse to the declining number of the robin bird in the park. Thisdecline was highly attributed to the degradation of the environment, particularly pollution and destruction of vegetation.
Duringthis activity, I participated in educating individuals throughpresentation. The presentations included a show of the beauty ofnature and the significance of safeguarding our environment for thefuture generations. I also collected contacts of partners in theeffort to rehabilitate the park and ensure the animals are safe frompoachers and from pollution. At the end of the exercise which took 7days, I was able to convince several residents in the community tosupport our course towards a clean environment and safeguarding ourheritage. Several corporate and individuals came on board to supportthis noble course.
Inthe exercise I learnt a lot. First, I discovered that not everyperson is supportive of the ideas of others, regardless of theirvalue. Opposition is always present and it is upon a person to pushand ensure that they remain on course despite the challenges. Inaddition, I learnt the importance of patience in voluntary work. Onecan get disappointed easily and abandon the project. Ultimately, Ideveloped my communication skills, besides enhancing myintractability with cultural diversity.
