UNETHICAL BEHAVIORS IN ORGANIZATIONS 4
Unethical behaviors are a common occurrence in majority oforganization across the world. These behaviors manifest themselves indifferent forms. To start with, it is evident that technology hasbeen in the epicenter of organizational development (Collins, 2012).As a consequence, computers have become a critical part of numerousorganizations. Employees have portrayed the unethical behavior ofusing these computers for the wrong and unintended purposes. Forinstance, a vast majority of employees use computers for personal usesuch as emailing, interacting with peers on social networks andplaying games and watching videos.
Apparently, misuse of power by senior employees has also beenoutlined as an unethical behavior in organizations whereby theyoveruse their power by manipulating and intimidating the junioremployees. In addition, another unethical behaviors is sexualharassment where a vast majority of employees pester workmatessexually through mishandling them inappropriately especially theopposite sex (Collins, 2012). The end result to this unethicalbehaviors result to time misuse and gossip that lead to physicalviolence, and coming to work late intentionally. It is vital to notethat there are various ways through which unethical behaviors tendsto increase organization cost. When employees are raid off form theirduties, organization use enormous resources in selecting,interviewing, orienting and training. It is paramount to note thatother costs are incurred through legal acts whereby employees stealcompany funds since they have access to personal files in the name ofthe organization and getting security numbers for credit cards fortheir selfish gains (Collins, 2012).
The article in the New York Times entitled Ex-Mayor Confronts Listof Transactions at His Corruption Trial in New Orleans, cites a caseof the former mayor of the city who is being charged for corruptioncharges and squandering the city’s money through dubious contracts(Robertson, 2014). This is an article that relates directly to thetopic of unethical behaviors in the workplace. Corruption andstealing organization’s money are some of the unethical behaviorsin an organization.
