The show got debuted on September 2008. Since theprogram is an opinion as well as daily news program it possesses highchances of offering various sociological implications in the society. The document will discuss on the sociological implications broughtabout by the changes in the unemployment insurance program that wasaired in the Rachel Maddow show (Berkun,2009).
RachelMaddow aired a show entitled the changes in the unemploymentinsurance. The show revealed several main social implications thatare in effect in the current world. One of the social implicationsexpressed in this show is the hardship brought about by the cuts tothe unemployment insurance in the North Carolina. The show expresseshow hard it had become for the jobless workers to support theirfamilies and make their ends meet in the economy. It is because onlyvery few jobs that were available in the economy (Berkun,2009).
Anincrease in unemployment as expressed by the show forms anothersocial implication. The main cause of this social implicationexpressed by the show is people quitting the workforce. The show, therefore, revealed two main social implications being the employmentand the resultant problems from the unemployment insurance. It isvery clear that the two social implications affect each other. Thereis a great possibility that the main cause of the unemploymentsociological implication is the unemployment insurance claim. Itraises alarms by the manner in which the unemployment insurancesocial implications keep individuals looking for employment henceincreasing this social implication. The hardships resulting fromunemployment insurance usually take place in the slow economicrecoveries (Berkun,2009).
Theunemployment insurance the mother of all these social implicationsgot designed with the intention of serving as a buffer for theeconomy when there are economic downturns. It achieved its planthrough collecting the contributions from the employers in theemployer’s good times. The contributions would in return becomeused when the downturn hits. These contributions would greatly helpin the times of such a downturn since money for paying the benefitsto the unemployed workers would be enough. The enactment of newunemployment law expressed a threat to the unemployment insurance’seffectiveness as an economic stabilizer. The enactment of thisunemployment insurance brought about the main social implication inthat the jobless could not manage to cater for their basic needs(Berkun,2009).
Thewriter thought about these sociological implications to be the mostthreatening implications in the society. It is because of theresultant effects of these implications. The implications would notonly lead to the victims living a life that is below standards, butit might also claim people’s lives. Such effects would take placewhen the victims may fail to cater for the most basic needs likemedicine and food. The writer chose this issue because it is a commonphenomenon in human life especially in the current times (Berkun,2009).
