A rhyme book is simply a notepad in which a rapper writes his songlyrics. One of the distinguishing features of a rhyme book is that itcontains the creative work of a singer or an artist. Secondly, arhyme book is a hardcopy and information in it is written in it usinga pen. Further, the rhyme book is usually small enough to fit in apocket (Mikazuki Publishing House, 2012). It is designed in a waythat an artist can carry it in his or her pocket. In addition, lyricsin it are constructed in terms of classic verses or rhymes.
The rhyme book is important for various reasons. First, its mainpurpose is to act as a reference book for the owner. In case a rapperforgets anything about his/her lyrics, he/she refers to a rhyme book.Consequently, it enables the owner to memorize lyrics frequently andto perfect in performance. Rakim, Eminem and Nas are examples of hiphop artists who managed to perfect their performances with the helpof a rhyme book. Secondly, the rhyme book shows the process throughwhich a rapper goes through until he/she comes up with a finalversion of lyrics. As such, the rhyme book allows other people totrace the process through which an artist grew to a point of comingup with lyrics that appeal to the public. It shows how rhymes areconstructed by the owner, and it gives readers insights into thecreative work (Mikazuki Publishing House, 2012).
A rhyme book may express the cultural values of an artist. To startwith, it indicates that the owner values writing. The more detailedit is, the more it expresses the writer’s love for writing.Secondly, a rhyme book indicates that the artist takes in workseriously. Lastly, rhyme books have been replaced by digitalhand-held devices that have memories, such as phones. Thus, anyartist who uses a rhyme book currently must be a conservative (he/sheis resistant to change) (Mikazuki Publishing House, 2012).
