RELATION DATABASE 4
Thisreport describes the importance relation database solution and how itcan be used by businesses to solve current problems and bring aboutimprovement in business operations. A relation database is anorganized set of data items collection that formally describes tablethat can be used to access or reassemble data in a different mannerwithout disrupting the database table organization. Thus, this reportrecommends ways a business can use relation database solution tobring value to the organization. In the business world today, therisk of competitors establishing a competitive advantage because ofmaking better informed decision is high. Thus, it is paramount thatwe implement a relation database and use it in solving the currentbusiness problems so that we can remain competitive. The currentproblems faced by our businesses include data independence, changesin technology and poor storage. How can relation database managementsystem be used to solve current business problems?
Dataindependence is important especially in a large business such as ourcompany this is because there is a large body of vital information. This is information held by the company should be able to last a lifetime as long as the company remains in operation. However, the mannerinformation is captured manipulated and stored all depends on thecurrent technology applications for accessing data may change moreoften for different reasons (Halpin & Morgan, 2008). Thus, database structure must be able to change or adapt to the changes.
Thefindings of this study describe how relation database can be used tosolve the problem of data independence and storage. First theapplication used to hold data should be given a data view that doeschange with time so that the application remains effective. Second, the data physical organization ought to be changed without makingchanges to the software using database system. Changing the physicaldata organization is necessary because it increases the speed of thenew application without damaging the old ones thus bringing aboutdata independence.
Thestudy paper concludes that adapting relation databases in the companywill play a huge role in improving the company operations. Thecompany will have a good strong hold on mature, reliable and currentrelation database for use in solving problems that the businessencounters. The value brought by the relation database includes itsability to give support to transactions this is done by: lockingaffected areas until the completion of the transaction. Having aseparate logging file is used to log changes in the database, theresults are written back immediately and if a transaction fails arollback is done to undo the changes made in the log file.
Thepaper recommends that the company the company should adopt therelation database. This is because using relation database as amanagement system will have the following advantages for the company:data will only be stored once and complex queries in the company willbe carried out especially in manipulating data language to solve thisquery (Sumathi, & Esakkirajan, 2007). In addition to this, another advantage to be gained by use of relation database in thecompany is better security and catering for the future requirements.
Thereport also gives an account of some of the shortfalls causedrelation database such as performance this depends on the machinedoing the work. In addition, the relation database is at times slowin the extraction of data meaning especially for data organized inhierarchy.
