ProcessRecording Social Work
AsI worked as an intern in the Leadership Training Institute, therewere various things that happened in the agency. One of the thingsthat occurred in the agency was mentoring. STYA mentors focused onthe needs of the mentored youths and built on and nurtured youths’personal strengths and assets. This helped in building primarydevelopmental assets with youths. In the agency, there were alsoadult-supervised activities, where I learnt various things forexample, I learnt exposure from the supportive activities, whichintroduced new situations, people, and ideas. This provided achallenge for learning new skills. These recreational, vocational andeducational opportunities helped in offering first-hand experiences, which helped in building of strengths and shaping ideas for thefuture.
Inthe agency, there were also small group discussions. The small groupdiscussions created opportunities for discussing the concerns of theyouths with caring adults. Through the discussions, I was capable toacquire team-building, media literacy, and social learning. Theseboosted the way I relate with other individuals whether youths oradults. Through the small group learning, I was also equipped withthe knowledge of understanding how to deal with and resolve problems. In addition, in the agency, there was parenting education. In thisarea, parents played a primary role of communicating with their kidsconcerning responsible behavior and values. The chief purpose ofparenting education was to promote and strengthen supervision andcommunication skills of various stakeholders such as guardians, parents, and other caregivers. This program helped in acquiringnecessary skills, which is critical for care givers. Besides, theprogram aided in gaining vast skills that is critical in advising theyouths on matters concerning proper parentage.
