Ihave found out that the theory that I have used most in my life andday-to-day activities is the social learning theory (Bundara)(Lefrançois, 2012). The theory states that human beings learnthrough observing the actions of others and this coded behavior intheir mind later becomes a guide for them in the actions they take.It also explains human behavior in relation to the continuous jointinteraction between behavior, reasoning, and environmental influences(Lefrançois, 2012). Bandura’s theory argues for joint determinismwhere a person’s behavior and the world influence each other.Secondly, the theory suggests that according to behaviorism, aperson’s environment influences him or her. This theory is a bridgebetween cognitive and behavioral learning theories (Lefrançois,2012).

Iused this theory when studying and preparing for my exams, throughwhat I learnt from observing my elder brother. He had a timetablewhereby he woke up early daily and after studying a particular topicfor that day. He would examine his understanding by formulatingquestions, and then attempting to answer them. Secondly, as theexaminations neared, he would use the questions to revise for thepapers that he sat for and he passed extremely well. It also workedfor me as I confidently found myself prepared for examinations, as Iwould have revised early. Secondly, is observing how my mum wouldmake different meals by just looking and following particularmethods. It has helped me since I make extremely tasty meals based onwhat I saw her doing.

Itis also apparent to point out that the way I start my day is as aresult of what I observed my mother do it as a young child. I startmy day with a word of prayer just as the way I saw my mother do it ondaily basis. Although I never understood what a prayer was at first,I later learned the essence of prayer. This has been of great help tomeet in that I put all the issues before me to God. In addition,putting my trust before God has ensured that I hardly worry aboutissues, which are out of my control.

Thetheory that I would use as a parent is the operant condition theory.It is evident that this theory emphasizes on the positive andnegative reinforcement whereby when a person is rewarded for anypositive thing he or she does (Daniels &amp Lauder, 2012). Thismakes the children to make an association between a particularbehavior and a consequence. This means that the child is fully awarethat whatever he does will be rewarded either positively ornegatively. Positive reinforcements are favorable outcomes that aregiven to a person after doing an expected behavior. It comes in theform of rewards, praise and other appraisal forms. On the other hand,negative reinforcement deals with the removal of unwanted orundesired behavior after an unexpected behavior (Daniels &ampLauder, 2012). For example, making the child not watch the televisionor stay indoor until he or she is able to do the expected task.

Thetheory uses positive and negative punishment to be able to eliminateundesired responses from developing and forming certain behaviors.The best part of this theory is that the individual voluntary doeswhat is expected. For example, revising for an examination, with theexpectation that a reward would follow for excellent performance. Iwould be able to reward my children with different gifts every timethey do something that is expected of them. In addition, I would beable to curb unwanted and rude behaviors from my children throughimposing punishments after a wrong behavior.
