HowKindle Technology Has Influenced My Reading Habit
Technologicalinnovation has been very useful in enhancing our lives especially asstudents in teaching and learning. One such technology is the Kindlee-books technology by Amazon Books. Before the introduction of thistechnology, it used to be very difficult to read e-books on PC as itwould take quite some time to download would be expensive to accessbooks from Amazon and was very inconveniencing as one could not carrytheir PC everywhere with them. My personal interaction with theevolution of the Kindle device and the Kindle technology has been alife changing and has enabled me enhance my lifestyle.
Whenthe device Kindle was introduced way back in 2007 and allowed theuser to purchase, download, surf and read e-books, magazines, blogs, newspapers, and other digital media through wireless networking.Initially this device was the only device that could offer the Kindleexperience of reading e-books and other digital media on a smalllight device. When it was developed I found it very useful as I usedto carry it along, allowing me to read all my favorite novels on thego! One amazing feature that made the Kindle a wonderful technologyfor book readers is the fact that, unlike other devices which couldnot allow the user to read comfortably in sunlight, one could readcomfortably under the sun (Strader 107). I could carry it with meduring outdoor activities and even when on holiday as it was thatflexible. Over the years, Kindle technology has evolved intosophisticated technology that has been making my life better andeasier day by day, being a lover of reading and a student.
EInk or the first generation Kindle was the first to be introduced inthe market in November 2007. During this time I was not so engaged instudies and I could only find it useful for reading my favorite storybooks and novels. It had an expandable memory through its SD cardslot. It was quite convenience for me as it had 250MB internal memorythat could handle about 200 titles, with speakers and headphoneswhich I used to access music and other audio files anywhere anytime(Strickland and Bernadette N.P). The Kindle soon became part of mylife as I carried it with me actually to every place.
Kindle2 was launched on February 2009 and alas, it was better than itspredecessor. Slimmer and lighter than the first generation version,Kindle 2 has 2GB internal memory and did not have external memory. Ifound it quite useful as I could download several files and save themin my device. This allowed me to make my own collection of musicfiles and some titles which I could access any time without aninternet connection. Also this was a masterpiece! It contained textto speech features that could read the text aloud. During the sameyear, several versions of the second generation Kindle wereintroduced although I did not find it necessary to upgrade my Kindle2 device. The versions included Kindle 2 international version, DX,Kindle DX international version, Kindle DX Graphite (Mirchandani 64).
Thelaunch of the third generation Kindle in July 2010 was anothermilestone in the development of the Kindle technology. The Kindlekeyboard was bigger and better. It had a keyboard. Although I had achance to use this version of Kindle, I did not find it very muchdifferent from the previous generation except for its keyboard. Thefourth generation was introduced with better features. Of the mostsalient features was its ability of its battery to run for a wholemonth without recharge. I had to dispose my previous version for thisone just because of this one feature, battery life (Strickland andBernadette N.P). It proved to be useful as I could read without worryof recharging the device for quite some time. I could go camping andstill enjoy reading even though there was no access to power.
Withthe advent of touch screen technology Kindle could not have been anybetter. In 2011, the fourth generation Kindle touch was introducedwhich changed everything. I could not hesitate to upgrade to thisversion because, apart from reading books, it allowed the user toaccess Wikipedia and other browsing through Wi-Fi connection. Thisallowed me to access even more information more conveniently. I coulddo my homework more conveniently as I could also browse other sitesfor information. The fifth and six generation of kindle followed in2012 that offered many options to the reader. The current Kindle issmall, light and fast, it is less than 6 ounces and can fits in mypocket, just like a phone. With hand turned fonts, it is very easyand convenient to read through. I usually read like in thetraditional book as I can touch and manipulate through the pages justlike in the traditional books. Unlike in the previous version, Iusually download a book in less than 60 seconds when on Wi-Fi(Mirchandani 78). With over a thousand books capacity, I carry mylibrary wherever I am. Book prices are also very low allowing me topurchase as many books as possible, which has made my learningexperience really easy and exciting. With parental control features,I usually lend my tablet to my younger siblings without fear of themmisusing it or accessing content that is not meant for them.
Inthe entire development of Kindle technology, the introduction ofKindle application for devices changed everything. Being a lover ofreading books and browsing, the tablet is my most favorite gadget.Kindle for Android app allows me to read just like before but withmuch convenience and fun (Bilton N.P). With my tablet, I can read mybooks, browse the net, read emails, and listen to music or watchvideos anywhere anytime. Besides, I can access Kindle through myandroid phone, meaning I am able to access Kindle in virtually everydevice.
Inconclusion, the introduction of Kindle technology has been a lifechanging experience for me. Being a book lover and having to stay intouch with my school work has been very exciting. Learning has neverbeen this easy and exciting with Kindle technology by Amazon.Compared to traditional books, Kindle technology will have a greatimpact on the lives of learners as students are no longer required tocarry a bunch of books with them. With Kindle technology, anytime isreading time.
