Helengave a speech about Lucille Ball, in class, in a good time as givento her. The speech focused on the topic and engaged the audience andalso used proper body languages. Through a speech that establishedcredibility and relevance of the topic, Helen was able to present herideas and information on the main points in a well organized speechto the class that this paper reviews.
Helenpresented credibility and relevance of the speech topic by describingthe main points that define Lucille Ball. She established theinterest of the audience by describing the need for the topic, whichcreated relevance and also presented her information as credible. Inregard to the topic, Helen discussed three main points that caughtthe attention of the audience. She introduced the early years ofLucille Ball and then discussed the career life of the topical personin a comprehensive yet summarized manner. This gave the audience thecontent that they could relate to in relation to personal careers.Finally, she analyzed the legacy of Lucille Ball which became a veryrelevant conclusion of her speech.
Herspeech was sufficiently extemporaneous through the use of wellplanned outline of her talk. This made her speech organized andpresented in a chronological order that the all the members of theaudience were able to follow. In addition, she was enthusiastic togive the speech and showed her eagerness to make the points clear tothe audience. Due to her enthusiasm, the audience responded well toher organization of the speech and gave her the attentivenessrequired at every point in the time of her speech.
Thedelivery of the content in her speech was well executed and theaudience seemed to understand each and every point she discussed.However, she could have done this better by stating the main point ofevery section of her speech before discussing the details of thesection of the speech. This will enable the audience to anticipatefor details on a certain point that was mentioned before adiscussion. She was able to use developmental materials and evidenceof the points she was making and also to defend her content.
Hervoice quality was appropriate to the topic since she used voicevariations well in a way that was appealing to the audience. Forinstance, she used high tone and low tones in some instances.However, she talked very fast when in her high tone of speech, andtherefore was not able to balance the two ends of the tone well.Combined with talking very fast, her speech could not be herd well insuch sections. Despite the problem, she was able to slow down in someareas leading to a better understanding.
Theeye contact with the audience was well established and she was ableto connect with the people she was addressing. However, she can makethe eye contact better by randomly mentioning the people in heraudience and engaging them in the talk. In addition, her bodymovement was well balanced since she walked around the space in alimited but active manner. Coupled with proper use of gestures, Helenwas able to use her non-verbal cues well to present her ideas.
Inconclusion, the overall performance of Helen was good and highlysatisfactory. She organized her speech well and was dynamic andenthusiastic to talk to the audience about Lucille Ball. Even thoughshe did not fully engage the audience, Helen was able to use verbaland non-verbal cues to present her content and deliver her speechsatisfactorily to the audience.
