ClintEastwood career as a director began in his first days as an actor.The process started when he joined Universal studio as a contractplayer in 1955. This avenue provided him with opportunity to learnand improve his acting skills and film making through the classesoffered by the firm for contract players. There were greatinstructors from the firm and Clint utilized every opportunity tolearn film making which was his passion.Hewas constantly being cast in roles which essentially allowed him tolearn, practice spend time in costumes, makeup and spent great timereading newspaper, playing cards, ‘shooting the breeze’ andobserving all aspects of motion pictures production (Day,2008 pg 2).
Inaddition, his skills in motion picture production were enhanced byworking alongside the finest pros in motion picture production. AtUniversal Studios, he gained much experience and education under thetutelage of his first mentor, ArtinLubin.Helearned a great deal on utilizing efficient, minimal budget as usedin TV production as well as benefiting from his mentor who constantlyshared his vast film production experience with Clint. His next breakin career came when he signed a TV play, RowdyYates,which received great networking. It is while at this venue that hegained vast experience observing motion picture veterans and upcomingtalents and budding auteur who enriched his skills in acting and filmmaking. As such he internalized all aspects pertaining dos’ anddon’ts’ in the seven years stint that he stayed at Universal firmuntil he felt seasoned enough to direct some ‘Rawhide’ episodes.He learned his film making skills from a pragmatic, professionalcoaching, practical budgeting and scheduling as well as producing anddirecting motion pictures (Amara,et al. 2010 pg 12).
Afilm director role involves directing and controlling films artisticand the dramatic aspects in motion picture production. In addition itis the film director’s role to visualize the script and guideactors and technical crew members in fulfilling the directors’vision. It is the directors’ role to choose cast members, set theproduction design and other creative aspects of film making. In thisrespect, the directors’ role is to author the film theme, overseethe technical and artistic elements of film production, arrange theshooting timetable and achieve deadline of film production.
Inaddition the director keeps an artistic eye on the shooting andgiving constant feedback on the casting crew which means havingexcellent communication skills. Furthermore, it is the role of thedirector to engage in conflict resolution among the actors and therest of the crews in order for the film to retain its vision whichcan get affected by the varying ideals and visions of team members.As such the director of the film spends much time in the filmproduction than anybody else(Kilduff, 2012,pg 2).
ClintEastwood as a renowned film director has achieved much and has beenrecognized through multiple awards and nominations for his work intelevision, music and film production. He has received numerousacademic awards the directors guild of America Awards and the GoldenGlobe Awards. He has twice been nominated as the best actor and bestdirectors. At 74years, he has directed five award winningperformances. He has however received other numerous awards andhonoraries in 2010 Eastwood was recognized by President Obama withArts and Humanities Award(Amara, et al. 2010 pg 12).
MyCareer interest in Film Making
Eastwoodcareer in motion picture production relates to my interest intelevision series production. A career in film making looks promisingto me especially the fiction packed motion pictures. Though I likeacting and watching others act, my passion lies in developing my ownfilm production agency that will support young talents. This meansmajoring in film production in the college where I will take keeninterest in all aspect of film making such as budgeting, shooting,script writing, motion pictures production designs and creativeaspects of film making. In addition, I will focus on developing mycommunication skills, leadership and planning skills like Eastwooddoes in his career as a film director(Day, 2008 pg 2).
Generalbackground information about Clint Eastwood
Eastwoodwas born in San Francisco, California in 1930 to a working classparents who were of Irish and Dutch ancestry. He attended OaklandTechnical High School where his teachers encouraged him to take partin school plays which he was not interested. He did many jobs beforejoining United States Army in 1951 where he was appointed swimmingand lifeguard instructor and later avoided combat mission in theKorean War. It is while at Fort Ord that Rawhide Universal Studiosspotted and employed Clint. While here, the director of UniversalStudios sneaked Eastwood to Hollywood. It is while here that he wasintroduced to the world of drama and acting. His first unaccrediteddebut was in 1955 film Revengeof creature andthismarkedthe beginning of his acting career participating in numerous films inHollywood and outside until later when he converted to filmdirecting. Roughly Eastwood has contributed to over 50 film in hiscareer as an actor, director and composer. He has also contributedmusic in his film production and while acting. Mainly he starred inwestern action and drama series.
