Enrollinginto psychology lecture Psychology 1A, assumptions about the coursewere that I would have the abilities similar to a mentalist. It isassumed and a school of thought held by many people that psychologyis a constituent course and complimentary to other sciences. Thatnotion however has changed because psychology is a major socialscience without which we would not understand the human behavior andits effects on daily life.
Learningpsychology has increased the knowledge and understanding of factorsthat affect the human mental state and subsequent behaviors. Thereare significant things that I learnt from psychology. An improvedcommunication skill is a trait acquired through frequent practice andstudy of the psychological field. I developed my understanding ofhuman interactions that helped to reduce and prevent altercations inmy personal relations with people around me. An improvedcommunication skill has been useful in relating with people fromdifferent walks of life and also ability to communicate and passinformation effectively.

Psychologyis a social science and psychologists conduct research and formulatetheories with respect to various issues. There are five scientificsteps they take to conduct this research. The first step involvesformulation of a hypothesis to test a particular occurrence. Thesecond step involves collection of data concerning the occurrence.Collection of data is by setup of an experiment where a controlgroup is used together with the experimental group. The experiment isconducted using different parameters to test the hypothesisformulated. The fourth step involves collection of results from thenumerous experiments testing the hypothesis. A conclusion succeedsresult drawing.
Anunderstanding of human behavior though, not in detail fascinated mewhich is an important part of psychology that I felt would have beendiscussed further in detail. The most favourite topic in theintroduction to psychology is the ‘brains, bodies and the humanmind.` The subject gave insight into the intentions of human behaviorand development based on various factors such as culture, locationand moral values.
Myparticipation in class can be termed as good. I contributed to themost of the topics and gave ideas where I was required to participatein group discussions. My attendance was perfect since I did not missa single lecture. I would award myself a distinction in theintroduction to psychology due to my understanding of a majority oftopics covered. The achievement of the grade is because I startedapplying the lessons learnt in psychology after acquiring theknowledge.
