ARCHITECTURAL SCIENTIFIC METHOD 4
Therecent research on architectural scientific method claimed thatopen-office layout does reduce the output of employees instead ofincreasing. I fully agree with the researchers because people tend toinfluence each other significantly. If an employee shows up at workwith no psyche for work, he or she can influence others into themood. Similarly, the output can also reduce because employees maytend to copy the things others are doing.
However,I disagree with the recommendation of the report that employees’productivity can increase if they are provided with closed offices. The open layout makes administration easy because the supervisor canquickly spot individuals who are not working. Besides, the staff willrefrain from engaging in gossip since their colleagues can overhearthem. Instead, the offices should be semi-open such that employeescan easily access their colleagues when need arises. The completelyclosed offices should only be allocated to the senior officials suchas the director of an organization, human resource executive, andfinance managers as the individuals deal with variety of confidentialinformation that could jeopardize the safety of an enterprise if itleaks out to unauthorized persons.
Onthe same note, I support a semi-open office design as it enables therecruits to access assistance from skilled persons easily. Thecompletely open structure can make inexperienced staff nervous asthey might feel the supervisors are constantly monitoring them. Thewalls separating the various workstations can even be portable andinviting to strangers. This way, the staff members can enjoysignificant privacy, while at the same time each staff remains easilyaccessible to his or her colleagues at the workplace.
